Group name: Walking: Best Food Forward.
Group aims: To enjoy the local area both town and country. To improve fitness.
Walking regularly brings great benefits to our health; and our programme of walks aims to enhance this with visits to a great variety of places across the area, whether the coast, the countryside or the town.
Our walks are usually between 5 and 6 miles in length, usually on fairly flat terrain. We use public transport, meeting between 10.30 and 11.00 to catch a bus, train or metro, whichever takes us to the start of the walk.
On some of our walks there are points where you can drop out, usually about half way.
We have lunch in a cafe or pub, if the route allows. Our regular walkers do seem to enjoy this part of the day out!
Strong walking shoes are recommended for all walks and if you use sticks please bring them with you. You should be reasonably fit as we walk at a steady pace of about 2 miles an hour.
In recent months we have visited Hulne Park in Alnwick, the Derwent Valley, Aydon Castle near Corbridge and Old Durham.
As leader each month, I let group members have clear details of the route, the transport options and the lunch time possibilities.
We have an upper limit of 15 per walk, with this number being reached very quickly once the details are published.
Group events: Our walks take place once a month with the group often meeting first in Newcastle city centre to get the bus or train to our start point.
More information: If you would like to join us please contact our Group Leader, Margaret Anderson, by email above (full at the moment but you can join the Waiting List).
