Getting involved

Getting involved is a fantastic way to get even more out of your membership!

Becoming a member of Newcastle u3a is not like joining your local gym or social club and simply paying a membership fee in order to receive certain benefits. It is about joining a charitable, not-for-profit organisation in which everyone is relied on to do what they can to support each other in order to get the most out of their membership.

Every member is asked to consider how they can contribute to the smooth running of the u3a, as well as taking advantage of its many benefits. Getting more involved brings its own rewards too, in terms of friendship, being part of a collaborative team, and having a real sense of purpose and achievement.

All of the key roles mentioned in the “Our Structure” page are delivered and supported by volunteer members. No-one at any level receives any payment But the more volunteers who come forward, the more we can achieve. To express your interest in any of these roles or to ask about current vacancies, please contact our Volunteers Coordinator by email at: Volunteers Coordinator (email contact)

Most u3a Members do not see volunteering as a chore. It is just another way to make more friends, learn new skills, have fun and get the most out of being a member.

Here are some of the key ways in which you can get involved:

This is a checklist of the main roles for which we are currently seeking volunteers. These roles all involve a degree of self-motivation and responsibility to develop the role in the direction you feel would be most appropriate.
