Management Committee
Newcastle u3a has a simple structure which is led by its Management Committee. The committee is responsible not only for the smooth running and financial viability of the organisation, it is also responsible to the Charity Commission for ensuring that all our activities meet our charitable objectives.
Committee members are appointed at the Annual General Meeting, held in February each year and serve a 3-year term before having to seek re-election. In the interim, members may serve on the Committee as a Co-optee for up to one year. Our constitution states that there must be between 5 and 15 members on the Committee. The 7 current members are:
| Terry Kirkham - Chair | Annie Nicholson - Groups Co-ordinator | Jo Wilson |
| Geoff Brown - Treasurer | Paul Hemphill - Website Manager | |
| Jane Anderson - Business Secretary | Mike Fraser - (Co-optee) |
If any full member is interested in serving on the Committee, initially as a cooptee, please contact the Chair to discuss the next steps. His contact details, as well as other key post holders, including those not on the Committee, are provided on our Contacts page
Other Important Roles
Other important roles that are currently being delivered by non-Committee members include:
- Committee Minutes Secretary: Jane Kinghorn
- Volunteer Coordinator: Alyson Kirkham
- Membership Secretary: Val Ward
- Guest Speakers Panel: Geoff Dunkley
- Website Assistant: Joy Oades
- Facebook Page Managers: Mike Cook and Kate Scott (Joint)
Group Leaders
Newcastle u3a would be nothing without many of its members stepping forward to lead one or more of our 65 plus groups. Some of these groups have been going for many years and the lead role has been passed to another group member over time. Other groups are brand new and have been created at the suggestion of a member with a particular interest or hobby. Ideally, every group should have a deputy who can lead the group when the leader is unable to be present. Click on this link to see the Group Index of all our current groups.
