Status:Active, open to new members

When: Monthly on Thursday mornings 10:30-12:00
usually 2nd Thursday monthly.
Venue: Outdoor venues in summer; Indoor in winter

Group name: Local History Walking Through Time.

Group aim: in summer, to meet and enjoy walking our streets, buildings, and sites around Tyneside to understand their historical development and significance; in winter, to explore aspects of local history, chosen by group members, or to visit indoor venues of interest.

All welcome. No prior knowledge, skills, or experience needed. Just curiosity!

Walks are usually short strolls of about 1 mile with stopping points to admire and appreciate local features. Members prepare notes to explain to us what we see as we progress. Additionally members own stories, memories, experiences put the icing on our learning and enjoyment cake. Routes are usually flat and on paths.  No limit on number of members attending, unless required by a venue. We're a relaxed convivial group.

Members are encouraged to suggest walks and to help prepare and lead them.  Tyneside and its hinterland has a rich and varied history from pre-Roman times, through the industrial revolution, to the present day.

Group meetings: Usually monthly in-person meetings throughout the winter in Adamson House. In summer we prefer to meet in various locations around Tyneside and nearby. We sometimes take a bus or Metro to the starting point. We usually enjoy a cafe or pub meal together afterwards - an optional extra  - finishing 14:00pm.  In the winter months or if bad weather, we go indoors to such as the "Discovery Museum" with their wonderful collections.
