Group name: Walking: Best Food Forward.
Group aims: To meet and enjoy walking together for health and pleasure.
A perfect combination in our wonderful varied terrain, flora and fauna of Tyneside from the coast to the countryside and sometimes the city!
Typically 5 to 6 miles long on flat routes. Our pace is steady with stops to admire the scenery. We usually use public transport to get there and back. On some walks there are drop out points if you do not want to do the full distance but perhaps only 3 to 4 miles. Depending on the location we have lunch in a pub or cafe to finish. However, feel free to bring your own refreshments. Our emphasis is on enjoying the journey.
All welcome. No prior knowledge, skills, or experience needed. Just moderately good health and a willingness to enjoy the great outdoors. Stout shoes or walking boots are recommended together with appropriate clothing for the weather which can be cold wet and windy even in summer.
Recently we have walked through Jesmond Dene, followed the England Coast Path from North Shields to St. Mary’s Island, taken the Tyne riverside path from Prudhoe to Wylam, and visited the confluence of the North Tyne and South Tyne rivers at Watersmeet.
Group events: in-person meetings, usually 1015 for 1030 start, finishing about 1600pm, 4th Tuesday of the month. Earlier drop-outs for shorter walks are sometimes available. Our group often meets earlier in Newcastle city centre circa 1000 to get the bus or train to our start point.
More information: If you would like to join us please contact our Group Leader by email above (full at the moment but you can join the Waiting List).
